Tarek Ashkar Studio opened in 2006 and offers an individualized and crafted approach to interior, architectural, and furniture design. Since its start the office has focused primarily on residential work at many different scales ranging from a house and stables in Colorado to interior decoration and furniture design in Manhattan. The work ranges stylistically as well from Tudor to Modern to vernacular, because of a conviction that context is an opportunity for a more expansive approach to design, rather than an obstacle to it.

Tarek Ashkar was born in Alexandria, Egypt and is a graduate of Phillips Academy, Andover, and the University of California at Berkeley. He received his Masters in Architecture from the Harvard Graduate School of Design. Moving to New York in 1978, he worked for a number of architectural firms most notably SOM and Rafael Vinoly Architects. In 1984 Tarek and Rodman Paul opened Ashkar and Paul Associates, a partnership that provided architectural and interior design services to residential, institutional, and retail clients for 25 years. Some of the projects shown on his website are from that partnership.

Tarek Ashkar's work has appeared in a number of publications including the New York Times, Metropolitan Home, and Interior Design. He also teaches a design studio at Pratt Institute.
